The project is financed by the Austrian Science Fund FWF. It is located at the Department of Contemporary History of the University of Vienna within the work group "Wissen - Macht - Geschlecht" (Prof. Dr. Carola Sachse).
The archived personal and scientific papers of Mona Lisa Steiner provide fundamental insight into the multitude of practices and contexts of tropical botany in the Pacific area during the Second World War and the Cold War. The project combines research questions in the history of science and of scientific exile, as well as approaches to transnational science studies and gender history.
